Right after I took this picture (sorry about Spectre’s eyes…yeesh.) :

…I was feeling very proud of myself for having a newly-vacuumed rug upon which I could safely place my darling baby.
So then I’m heading down the stairs with her and see a stain on the stone floor in the hallway. It’s large, and truly, its origin is unidentifiable – at least to me. Which then leads me to ask Jan: “Uh, Mom? This is a really embarrassing question, given that we’ve lived here since October…but: Do I own a mop?”
Jan just looks down at the stain, takes a drink of her tea, closes her eyes for a long moment, and says: “Not that I’ve seen, no.”

I wish this story weren’t true.

SKYE-BIRD: “Loving the color, Mama…the fit? Not so much yet.”
MAMA: “Hang on, Baby-Doll. I’ll fix it.”

S-B: “Yeah? Well, you might want to step on it.”
M: “Oh, John, look! She’s so cute! – ha, ha – take a picture, take-a-picture!”
S-B: “This is ridiculous.”
M: “Hurry, Hurry!”
S-B: “Ok, People. Listen-here: YOU got to go up in the cool Blue Tower.

YOU get to have hot, strong Irish Breakfast tea and apfel strudel. YOU get to walk around and look anywhere you like, all under your own power.
That’s it. I’ve had it. No more pictures today. This thing is coming ….OFF!”

DADDY: “Daddy loves Skye.”
S-B: “All better now.”

John’s going duckhunting tomorrow, and I leave for Qatar later today, so this will stand in for the Sunday Funnies.
Great picture, huh? Spectre looks like a great duck dog…

…and then you see this. On many levels this is funny to me…not the least of which is that my husband is surfing on his computer while he’s lying in bed…but check out that dog.
Let this be a lesson to all of you who can’t resist bringing that sweet little puppy up on the bed.

Because this is what it’ll look like 6 years later.
